If you’ve purchased El Rancho, our other Huehuetenango microlot, you know that we’ve been purchasing coffee from the CODECH group for close to a decade. This year we bought three microlots in total, including this one, grown by Elda Argueta. Her farm sits at 1650 meters, where she grows caturra and pache verde. Her coffee came in second place in this year’s microlot competition, and we bough the lot in its entirety.
Elda’s coffee is definitely in keeping with the region, but it’s a little softer than Don Viviano’s. It has a base that is not quite nutty–more like a sugar cookie, or a sweet grain-like profile–to go along with the red and green fruits and acidity that we have become accustomed to in good coffees grown around Concepcion Huista.
Location: Concepcion Huista, Huehuetenango.
Elevation: 1650 MASL
Varietal: caturra and pache verde
